Theme Verses: Romans 10:14-15

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

Our Commitment to You:

  • To Serve the Lord Faithfully
  • To Communicate regularly what God is doing through the ministry
  • To Share prayer concerns with one another

John and Janie Stark (their project profile)

Wycliffe Bible Translators (Wycliffe's website)

John and Jaine Stark have been wroking on translating the Bible from the original Greek and Hebrew into the three Kamari languaes. they have been working on this for over twenty years. Here is an exceprt from their project plan.

By translating all three related Kambari languages at once, translators in each group can share ideas and consolidate the work, allowing the finished product to be done more quickly and efficiently. The goal of the project is to complete the New Testament and selected Old Testament portions in all three languages by the year 2008.

The team is also producing literacy materials and is conducting a literacy program to teach the people to become both readers and authors in their mother tongue. They plan to eventually establish a publishing house for their own materials. The JESUS film was produced in all three languages in early 2002. A missionary team will serve as project advisors but key Kambari people have been and will continue to be trained in linguistics, translation and literacy in order to carry out the project themselves with continuing access to consultants and other forms of assistance.

Nearly all of the Christian activity in the area is conducted in the Hausa language, which has limited communication and also has the social stigma of an invader or outsiders. The Kambari project will allow evangelization and discipleship in the mother tongues, reducing cultural barriers to the gospel. It will promote a Christianity based on a deeper understanding and relationship with the living God rather than that of simply following prescribed behavioral patterns.
